Arrow Capital Limited (ACL) is a Kigali based
investment advisory and consultancy firm that is focused on nurturing and developing investment
opportunities in East Africa and providing transaction advisory and financial consultancy
services to private and public-sector clients.
As a fairly untapped market, East Africa presents an opportunity for attractive returns and
portfolio diversification. The strength of ACL stems from the depth of experience that its
partners bring to the table which is in the fields of investment banking, investment management
and advisory services having worked with Fortune 500 companies in the developed markets of
Europe and the United States.
Arrow Capital's investment business targets small to medium scale enterprises (SME's) with an
East African geographical focus. The company takes a generalist investment approach but with
keen interest in financial services, technology, education, construction and real estate
development. ACL however does provide advisory services in other sectors that are viewed as key
drivers of growth and economic returns; Agriculture, Energy, Mining, ICT, Tourism and
Manufacturing.
ACL's goal is to work efficient and ethically well managed companies and institutions that
implement projects with a social economic impact on the lives of people and at the same time
provide attractive returns for investors. The company targets existing businesses requiring
growth capital and managerial expertise; opportunities to infuse capital to achieve organic
growth through forward/backward integration and regional expansion. ACL may also consider
co-investments in bigger size deals (e.g. PPP’s) where it takes a leading role in deal
structuring and Arrow Capital takes minority but significant equity stakes alongside other
investors. Capital structure advisory and distressed debt opportunities are also areas of
interest for ACL.
As an advisory business, our key value-add is in the detail orientation in packaging and
presenting investment-ready projects to investors. This includes idea origination, pitch book
and business plan preparation, due diligence, pre-feasibility studies, risk mitigation, deal
structuring and eventual project execution; all of which are possible due to strong knowledge of
the local business environment and carefully developed business relationships. In addition, ACL
seeks to leverage expertise in developed capital markets in the provision of innovative
financing solutions and cross-border consultancy services to a wide range of clients ranging
from small businesses to public institutions.

Arrow Capital Advisory partner's:
John is a finance and investments professional with experience in banking and a track record of having managed successful companies in Africa. He is a founding partner of Arrow Capital Ltd, an East Africa focused investment and advisory firm established in 2014. He is currently the Chairman of KCB Bank Rwanda and a non-executive director of Old Mutual Insurance Rwanda and ONE54 Holdings UK Ltd. He has also previously served as a non-executive director of MTN Rwanda, Rwanda Investment Group (RIG), Ultimate Concepts (Kigali Convention Center), Mount Meru Millers, JIBU Corp, Rwanda Energy Company (REC) and CIMERWA-PPC. From 2008 to 2013, John was the CEO of Crystal Ventures Ltd (CVL), one of the largest holding companies in Rwanda, where he significantly expanded the business portfolio which included; manufacturing (dairy products, soft beverages, edible oil, building materials), construction, real estate development, telecommunications, security services, printing, coffee shops, pharmaceuticals, etc. Before CVL, John worked in investment banking with Bank of America’s Global Industries Group in New York where he was involved in deal origination and execution in mergers and acquisitions, debt and equity offerings. He focused on engineering and construction, equipment and machinery and diversified industrials. Prior to that, he was an Analyst with Trudeau & Trudeau Associates, a boutique M&A firm in Boston and also had stints with Fleet Boston Bank and AC Nielsen Research. John holds an MBA in Finance from Brandeis University in Boston, Massachusetts and a BSc in Quantitative Economics from Makerere University, Uganda. John is the founder of “Vision Sports Academy”, a non-profit organization that seeks to empower underprivileged youth in Rwanda through sports talent development. He is also the President of Rwanda Table Tennis Federation (RTTF). John is 42 years old and is married with four children.
Alex is the Managing Director of Arrow Capital Ltd, an East Africa focused investment advisory and consultancy firm established in 2014. From 2016 to 2017, Alex was the General Manager of Pivot Works, a dual sanitation and renewable fuel company. He has served as Operations Manager of the largest clay based building materials manufacturing company in Rwanda for 7 years. Alex was also a Senior Investment Analyst of Crystal Ventures Ltd; one of Rwanda's largest investment companies with a diversified business portfolio including: road and civil works, construction and real estate development, telecommunications, security services, soft beverage manufacturing, building materials, printing, coffee shops and edible oil processing. Prior to that he was a credit analyst at Access Bank and was engaged in the daily management of client relations and credit analysis. He has extensive experience in financial analysis, financial management and investment analysis. His successes have included roles in general management, project management, budget planning, mergers and acquisitions, and private equity investment appraisal and strategy. Alex holds an MBA in Finance from Oklahoma Christian University and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the National University of Rwanda.
Charles is a founding partner of Arrow Capital Ltd, an East Africa focused investment consultancy and advisory firm. Charles is a founding Director of Arrow Capital Ltd, an East Africa focused investment and trading company. Charles has had a lifelong presence in Africa. Charles set up and runs ACGI Ltd which has originated, executed or advised on African transactions. He has advised African governments on asset valuation; established and managed a team of geologists on African mining projects and advised African owned businesses across the continent. He was a founding Director of Sovereign Mines of Guinea (a joint venture mining Exploration Company between the Government of Guinea and Sovereign Mines of Africa PLC), he is a Director of Agricola Holdings PTE an agriculture company with interests in the Philippines and a Director of West Africa Minerals Exploration. Charles started his career with Helmores Chartered Accountants, performing audit and assurances services in London. Charles holds a BA from Leeds University, ACCA Levels 1 & 2 and the FSA Certificate in Corporate Finance. Charles is 40 years old. He was born in the UK and at 3-months old, moved to Africa with his parents where he spent the majority of his childhood living in DRC, Ivory Coast and Nigeria. He has a good understanding of Africa and has inherited lifelong family business relationships established by his grandparents and parents, he is doing business in Africa at a third-generation level.
Maowei is an independent consultant/liaison of Arrow Capital Ltd, an East Africa focused investment consultancy and advisory firm in Asia & ME. Maowei is an entrepreneur with a finance background and is also a founding member of Sino-Euro Capital, a boutique Chinese asset management company focusing on China outbound investment and advisory. He has gained over the recent years, a lot of business experience while supporting many large industrial companies in China to invest in other parts of the world. In addition to Sino-Euro Capital, Maowei together with his Arrow Capital partners, provide professional project consultancy services with a Sino-African focus. He is a crucial member of the Arrow team especially in regard to China sourced financing and contracting for Arrow Capital's private and public sector clients. He has experience in advising leading Chinese construction companies and other industrial firms in setting up businesses and operations in African countries. Through Arrow Capital, Chinese companies are enabled to explore business and growth opportunities in their targeted Africa markets in both investment and contracting related opportunities. Prior to his current engagements, Maowei worked as an investment banker at ABN AMRO in China for 3 years, covering local Chinese corporate clients. As a hybrid banker, Maowei has been marketing a broad array of banking products to large Chinese companies. He also was engaged in the daily management of client relations, deal origination and execution of both commercial and investment banking products. Prior to his banking experience, Maowei has been an investment research analyst at Decision Economics, Inc. based in Boston, covering US-listed Chinese companies to assist the firm’s investment decisions. Maowei Zhu holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from East China Normal University in Shanghai and an M.A. in International Economics and Finance from Brandeis University in Boston (USA).
Philip is a partner and Director of Arrow Capital, an East Africa focused investment and advisory firm established in 2014. Prior to joining Arrow Capital, he co-founded New Food Company Holdings (NFC), a UK based private diaspora investment company focused on identifying scalable opportunities with a clear product-market fit, Philip has been involved in development of marketing and branding strategies, building management teams to implement go-to-market and growth scaling strategies to create consumer and shareholder value. In the last 5 years NFC (UK) invested in and setup a Milk Distribution business in Uganda using MILK ATMs to deliver quality milk at affordable prices without the need for packaging. Prior to NFC, Philip was a Senior Finance and Operations Technology specialist with over 15 years working experience in Investment Banking in the U.K, Philip led the implementation of several large-scale technology and operational projects to optimize business performance and cost efficiencies, while managing global teams designing and delivering trading platforms for fixed income and credit derivative products. At Citi Bank, Philip managed the development team of a global equity trading platform, where in under 3 years the equity business unit increased its trading portfolio size from $20billion to $60billion and generating annual revenue of $350million. Prior to Citi Bank, Philip lead a team at ABN AMRO that managed the development of a trading credit trading platform focused on Asset Backed Securities with implementation of product pricing and risk modelling for various financial instruments. Philip holds an MSc Computer Science from University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa and a BSc Computer Science and Mathematics from Makerere University, Uganda. Now based in East Africa, Philip is married with three children and a great Arsenal Football Club fan.
